Cosmos Hotel - a reflection of Moscow's new architecture

The modern Cosmos Selection Moscow Arbat Hotel has opened in Novy Arbat in Moscow. It has become an example of the renovation of an iconic site in one of the most recognizable areas of Moscow - the so called "reserve" of Soviet modernism.
The building was built in 1965 and served as a Communications House. The old structure was largely replaced by a new one, as the characteristics of the original building were poorly suited to the requirements of a modern hotel complex. The result is a dynamic 12-storey building with a stepped cantilever extension towards the Kremlin, which houses luxury rooms and a panoramic restaurant with views of the historical center.
Special attention is paid to the facade, which defines the recognizable appearance of the hotel. The central element of the exterior is a metal "exoskeleton" with sweeping diagonal lines, creating the effect of depth and movement. The key role in the exterior of the building is played by slats lined with gold-colored stainless steel panels from GRADAS. They form an expressive grid that crosses the glazing, adding rhythm and lightness to the facade. They work as a sun protection and decorative element, changing the perception of the building depending on the lighting and angle of view.
The side of the building on the right side and the individual elements of the entrance group are clad with the same stainless steel panels as the slats. The material emphasizes the modern character of the object, provides durability, weather resistance and a characteristic metallic luster that effectively reflects the sky and the surrounding buildings.
The object is perfectly complemented by dark gray aluminium panels located on the side of the building on the left side. They harmoniously fit the stainless steel panels, giving the facility a more businesslike style. The combination of stainless steel, aluminium and glass creates a contrasting but integral image that is both futuristic and fits into the area of Novy Arbat.
The new facility demonstrates how modern materials and technologies make it possible to reinterpret the legacy of modernism, creating a striking accent in the historical center of Moscow.
